It is that time of the year where in business it is often easy to let everything you are trying to juggle overwhelm you to the extent that you put your hands up and go into holiday mode early.
The challenge I have is that if we give up after Melbourne Cup and go into holiday mode it is 2-3 months you are losing in your business. The other affect is it may set you up for increased stress for the following 4-5 months as you must overcome the cashflow challenges that are the flow on affect.
To overcome the overwhelm of juggling all the commitments and everything that needs to be done before Christmas (as business people we all know that the world ends at Christmas) I recommend the following key items to complete now at the start of November which will set you up for a great lead into Christmas:
- Make a list of what needs to be achieved between now and 31st December (whilst this may be an overwhelming list it gives a starting point and a focus)
- Sales Target
- Work/Product delivered
- Marketing Activities
- Staff Activities
- From the above list take each goal and break it down into the activities that need to be completed to achieve the task
- X number of sales calls
- Facebook marketing – 5 posts
- With the above list you can then schedule the tasks as to what needs to be completed as to what day i.e. if you have a sales target you may need to prioritize lead generation early in the month
Working with clients we find that once the above process is completed the overwhelm is reduced to the daily activities that don’t go to plan as opposed to that plus what you may or may not be needing to achieve.
It is also a system that sets clients up that if they are able to action the tasks with the required results it means the goals are achieved or they can adjust their budgets etc. if they are not achieving the results they are wanting.
As opposed to others in business who don’t have the plan we are often lead to complete a little of various tasks but miss the timing of when tasks are needing to be completed to achieve results and as such often targets are missed or important opportunities are lost.
