There are a lot of grants and business support services available to help new and existing business grow and succeed. Much of this funding is provided by local, state and the Australian government and it is crucial that businesses take advantage of what funding is out there.
Some popular grants and assistance programs available now include:
New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) from Department of Employment – provide training and business set-up mentoring assistance for those who are unemployed and wanting to establish their own business
Research & Development (R&D) Tax Incentive from AusIndustry with Taxation Office – provides a targeted tax offset designed to encourage business to engage in R&D activities in Australia
First Start Loans from Queensland Rural Adjustment Authority – provide concessional interest loans for the establishment of primary production enterprises
A lot of grant money available is targeted at small to medium business and often start-ups who may find raising capital difficult. Given the amount of support available often begs the question – ‘Why aren’t more businesses tapping into these grants?’ Possibility because business owners aren’t aware of the grants available or think the application process is too difficult and time consuming. This isn’t necessarily the case and support by way of a grant or other services can provide considerable benefit to a business.
