As I drive down Jones Road each morning, I always look in awe at the bike riders riding up the hill. For those that don’t know this road it is a steep hill that leads up to Buderim which in going up the riders are often pedaling and appear to barely be moving as they pedal. Eventually they reach the top.
As I watch, I think of the businesses I work with and how the successful businesses are those that have a structure and keep moving forward. That is, they continually keep doing the tasks that provide the results and ultimately achieve success.
The positive activity I see is:
- Marketing Plan – strategic plan to provide leads
- Sales – structured and continual activity to ensure they are converting leads and driving revenue
- Client retention program
- Cashflow Management – business targets are not delayed due to a lack of cashflow
- Accountability – a business partner to keep them accountable to staying on track
Like the bike rider these successful people have the ability to assess what is working and change where they need. Ie. if it is getting a little steep, they can adjust the gears. This is often the work we do with clients in their bimonthly accountability meetings. Here clients report on what has happened and we make a plan to adjust what they need to do to achieve their targeted goals.
Where I see business lose track is when they don’t have the structure and discipline, or they are distracted by the next idea that takes them away from doing the core work that keeps the business going. (I don’t deny you having the next idea but what you need to do is ensure that you are still doing the core work that keeps the business profitable). With the new year and new opportunities in business, do you need help to get to the top of the mountain?
